Coffee With Cote'

So we are through the election, holidays and the new year is off and running – so how are your New Year’s resolutions coming?

Coffee with Cote’ ended 2016 with some political detox and now 2017 is in full swing – so how are those goals coming?  Is it really February? For most, setting those New Year’s Resolutions are not only a distant memory, but statistically, the majority of us have already abandoned them all together.  If you fall into this class (not being on track for hitting them or bailing on your resolutions altogether), don’t be too hard on yourself.  Really, why do we have to make the first of each year the day to start on a better you in the first place?  Add to this that most people over-load with too many or unrealistic expectations, and with everything life has to throw at us, in a way, we’re almost set-up for failure.

Early on my father shared that if you want to get something done, give it to someone who is busy.  So if you fall into the “busy is my life” category, but could add the one thing that would make everything else seem more possible, here it is – Activity.   The activity here would be that of the physical nature that if added for most would lead to a healthier you.

Consider this: today nearly 1/3 of all Americans are considered obese – this includes those with a BMI of 30 or greater.  Add to this, obesity results in a 42% greater spend than those of their co-workers and today equals 20% of all US healthcare spending.  With this comes the simple truth that worksite productivity is also impacted by obesity, resulting in worksite absence ten times greater than the average employee.

I can assure you that no politician will get elected by telling his constituents something that they don’t want to hear – east less and workout more.  Is it possible that the prescription many of us need today is a doctor with no bedside manner, the one who will tell us what we need to hear that in the end will make you a better you?   Hmmm – doesn’t this kinda sound like someone whom just jumped into politics?  Stay tuned Coffee lovers …
