February seemed about the right time to check in with those New Year’s resolutions.

For most, we start the year off with a bang, with all the promises in the world to accomplish every BHAG (Big Hairy Audacious Goal) written down.  And before you know it: it is five weeks later, the New Year’s bright glow is gone, college football is over, the NFL once again wrapped up with another Patriot’s Super Bowl victory and that darn snow keeps piling up.

I have heard that people way over-estimate what they can get done in one year and under-estimate what they can accomplish in three years.

So if you are in need of help getting out of bed, preparing for a better day, increasing your connection with others, building a better business practice/professional life or other areas that are holding you back, let the below list help get you to that better version of yourself.

  1. Always be looking for ways to work on your mind and body – you only get one of each
  2. Stretch daily
  3. Take a ten minute walk
  4. Take the stairs whenever you can
  5. Sign up to run or walk in a 5k, 10k a ½ or full marathon
  6. Sign up for spin class
  7. Go for a bike ride
  8. Drink more water
  9. Stop drinking pop – diet too and yes it is still bad for you and regardless of what you tell yourself it tastes bad
  10. Get a Massage
  11. Open your shades and let more light in
  12. Get a Physical
  13. Add Cinnamon – it has been shown to boost metabolism
  14. Stop grocery shopping when you are hungry
  15. Get a fitness tracker
  16. Try meditating
  17. Take a social media break
  18. Stop comparing yourself to others
  19. Allow yourself to get frustrated
  20. Don’t always bite when others lead with something negative
  21. Smile
  22. Seek out a professional mentor – hint: you don’t have to meet them to benefit from their advice
  23. Treat everyone like they could help your professional career
  24. Never stop being a beginner – beginners have many possibilities, experts have many less
  25. Never stop asking questions
  26. Close out all those unnecessary tabs on your computer and ditch the sticky notes
  27. Take 10-15m @ lunch and do something fun and don’t feel guilty about it
  28. Find friendship outside of work
  29. Reach out to people that are grieving and don’t worry about how you do it – text are fine and knowing you care is the most important thing
  30. Hug people who are grieving, hug people who aren’t
  31. Call your parents or grandparents more often – some of us don’t have this as an option
  32. Send thank you notes
  33. Stop saying but and instead try yes
  34. Good conversations are free
  35. Have a weekly to do list, review it and update it each week
  36. Write a letter to your future self
  37. Buy someone coffee – buy anyone coffee and make sure each day includes coffee
  38. Read more (and audible counts)
  39. Go to a concert
  40. Create your own shower concert
  41. See a comedy show
  42. Put your phone on airplane mode for at least an hour a day
  43. Put your life on airplane mode for at least an hour a day and work on more vs in more
  44. Say no more
  45. Eat more chocolate chip cookies
  46. Get rid of things you don’t need – hint: if you haven’t used it in over a year, this is a good place to start
  47. Laugh more
  48. Laugh at yourself more
  49. Listen to more music
  50. Embrace more genres of music and never forget the color purple

So let the above be a nice way to make 2019 the best version of you and with this consider what the meaning of life is – GROWTH.  So when in doubt on a goal oriented vs growth oriented year remember: each step forward no matter how big or how small, can lead to an amazing future and a better you!
